As we searched the world for the most beautiful and unique textile art, we came upon the historical tapestries from Poland. The gobelin tapestry’s origin is from a dye-works founded by Jean Gobelin in the mid 15th century. The Gobelins factory produced amazing works of art and was noted for its excellence in materials, dyes, and workmanship. The gobelins were based on paintings, frequently from the masters, and had religious themes that were coveted by royalty throughout Europe.
Keeping up with today’s environment and the world we live in, we offer gobelins inspired by nature and the artist’s environment. The artists still use their own paintings to begin the work. The kilim or gobelin evolves from the original painting which is what makes the final piece look like a painting. Polish tapestries are known throughout the world for using the old techniques and traditions of weaving and creating original contemporary designs. Each piece you purchase will come with the original painting or sketch that inspired it.
