The Twist, which is a crisscross form, represents the many paths of life and the joining of two people and two cultures for eternity. It shows the strength of bond of friendship, loyalty and love.
The Koru is a fern frond as it opens bringing new life and purity to the world. It represents tranquility, peace, and spirituality.
The Hei Matau is the most powerful symbol and the wearer is the provider and protector with great determination to succeed in life.
We have chosen these three symbols of the Maorian culture to offer to you.
Baltic Amber
Baltic amber dates back 37-42 million years ago. During that period the resin of trees hardened and weathered, which created the unique charm of the Baltic amber. At the time when amber was being formed, a land mass called Fenno-Sarmatia covered what is now Scandinavia, while present-day Europe lay underneath the Thetys Sea. The sap was carried from inland by the River Eridan and deposited in its delta: the present Bay of Gdañsk. It is here that the largest deposits of amber are found.
Gdansk, the largest port city on the Baltic, became the center of European amber craftsmanship. After much warfare and strife among the amber craftsmen and the city rulers, the amber craft began to flourish in the late 1400’s. The Amber Guild was founded in 1477. Workshops produced caskets, jewelry, spoons, sculptures, miniatures of sailing-ships, birdcages, cups and oil lamps made of silver and amber. According to the guild law, no more than 40 amber workshops had permission to run. It guaranteed high quality of goods which remains to this day.
The natural color of amber is light yellow or honey-tinted. The darker colors of other types of amber are a result of oxidation. White and opaque kinds of amber have a structure of foam giving them their milky appearance. The creatures which remain trapped in chunks of amber are called inclusions. Preserved for 40 million years they delight connoisseurs with their beauty and are a rewarding subject of scientific studies.
Today, the Baltic Sea, located in central Europe is the most fertile mine of amber. Our jewelry is imported from Poland, made of genuine Baltic amber and sterling silver (0.925). We have chosen designs that are modern and offer a simple, smooth shape to enhance the natural beauty of the amber.
Peruvian Silver and Semi-Precious from Cesar Aguinaga
Peruvian silver is often compared to white gold because of its luster and soft appearance. The Peruvian silver offered here is 95% silver and no nickel. It is believed the nickel in jewelry may be the cause of allergies.
The semi-precious stones are collected in the mines and shores where Cesar is most familiar. He was a geologist in Peru and has amazing and hidden sources for all of his stones.
